Bootleg Canyon's Brent Thomson Survives Quad Bypass - Needs Support

Las Vegas, NV - January 28, 2009 - As many of you know, Brent Thomson, Trail Master of Bootleg Canyon suffered a heart attack a few weeks ago, and underwent Quad Bypass surgery last week. While now recovering at the hospital, Brent is coming back into his old self, despite suffering a stroke after surgery.
"I went and visited him last Sunday at the hospital," states Steve Boehmke."He had tubes down his throat to help him breath and eat, was all morphined out, couldn't speak and had limited movement on his left side. Despite that, he still showed classic "Brent-ness" by his reaction when asked questions, and his attempt to French-Kiss my girlfriend Courtney when she said hi!"

On Monday, doctors removed the tubes, and Brent is quickly becoming his old self. Now able to speak and move both sides of his body, he is anxious to get going on physical therapy.

Ever the enthusiast, Brent is ready to get back to work, though he knows it may take some time. "I've got trails to build!" said Thomson. "I want to thank everyone who sent their good wishes and support through this time," continues Brent, "I've got a lot of work to do before I'll be 100%, but I'm already getting a lot of creative ideas on how to motivate my body. I can't wait to see all of my friends from the bike industry and get back to doing good work again."

About Bootleg Canyon
Brent Thomson is the mastermind behind the trails at Bootleg Canyon Mountain Bike Park. He has created an extensive network of World Class Downhill and Cross-Country mountain bike trails. The area has been visited by riders from as far away as Japan and Germany and has been written up in magazines around the world. The International Mountain Bike Association has certified one of the XC trails as an Epic Ride, a title given out only 18 times so far.

Boulder City is located approximately 40 minutes south east of Las Vegas by the Hoover Dam and beautiful Lake Mead. The riding season is year round, however, temperatures average around 100 degrees Fahrenheit from June through August, so mid-day riding is difficult. If you do decide to come in the summer be sure to bring plenty of water and maybe some head lamps for a night ride. Go to Bootleg Canyon to ride, and let the Government and Businesses of Boulder City know how much you appreciate the work that Brent Thomson has done for their city and Mountain Bike riders.

Intense / Team Houseman Racing

I’m proud to announce that I’ll be riding Intense Cycles in 2009. At this stage of my career, I felt it necessary to align myself with companies that have similar goals to mine. Intense has welcomed me with open arms, and I’m very excited to open up this new chapter in my career. I’ve always been a huge fan of Intense bikes, and to finally throw a leg over one is truly an honor. With Intense being a stones throw from my house, I can honestly say I feel at home with the brand!

See you at the races!

World Champ Rachel Atherton Hurt in Training Accident!

Current World Champion Rachel Atherton sustained a dislocated shoulder yesterday when she was involved in a training accident with a car. The Atherton trio have been training hard in Santa Cruz California since the start of January and yesterday was no exception. Details are sketchy but it seems Rachel hit the car head on with her brand new Cervelo road bike taking the brunt of the damage. Rach has an appointment with the specialist today and hopes to be up and ready for the first round of the World Cup in April, further updates on Rach can be found at http://www.animalcommencal.com/

Rich Houseman Released from Team Yeti

January 2nd, 2009

As of today, I was officially let go from the Team YETI program. I’m thankful for the last 4 years of support, but I’m excited at the new opportunity. It’s time for change, and this is the motivation I needed to move on to the next chapter in my career. I’ve been racing professionally for the last 13 seasons, and I’m fortunate to have ridden for some of the best companies in the world. I’ve also been mentored and taught by some of the most respected names in the industry. I owe guys like Eric Carter, and John Tomac a debt of gratitude. They’ve given me the confidence to press on, and really enjoy my career up to this point. As a veteran, I hope to pass on the knowledge I’ve gained to the rising stars of tomorrow.

I’m not sure where I’ll land moving forward, but I hope to hit the ground running! Keep an eye out for Team Houseman Racing, it’s back, and better than ever!

See you in 2009!
